Douglas Costa is staying with Juventus.
The club announced Thursday it is retaining the Brazilian winger, who was on loan from Bayern Munich for the 2017-18 season, on a permanent deal until 2022. To secure the deal, it will pay the Bundesliga side €40 million in two installments.
In total, the move will cost Juventus approximately €46 million, as the loan fee in the initial framework last July was reported to be €6 million. The €40-million option to make the deal permanent could yet rise another €1 million, however, due to performance-related clauses in the agreement.
Costa had a solid debut campaign with Juventus, making 47 total appearances across Serie A, the Coppa Italia, and the Champions League. He contributed to 20 goals for the Italian champions, scoring six and assisting 14, and played a key role in the Bianconeri's record seventh consecutive Scudetto.
Costa, who will feature in this summer's World Cup for Brazil, made the move to Bayern in July 2015 after six seasons with Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk.
