Redblacks hire Dinwiddie as new coach, general manager

The Ottawa Redblacks hired Ryan Dinwiddie as their new head coach and general manager, the team announced Wednesday.

Dinwiddie spent the past five seasons as the head coach of the Toronto Argonauts. The 44-year-old led the Argos to a 51-35 record, won two Grey Cup titles, and earned the 2023 Coach of the Year honor during his tenure in Toronto.

Shawn Burke, the Redblacks' previous GM, signed an extension to remain with the franchise as the vice president of football operations through 2028.

"This is a proud organization with passionate fans and a strong foundation to build on," Dinwiddie said in the statement. "I'm looking forward to working with Shawn to build our football club and to create a winning culture here in the nation's capital with the goal of bringing sustained success and a Grey Cup back to Ottawa."

Ottawa dismissed head coach Bob Dyce in October after finishing the 2025 season with a 4-14 record. The Redblacks posted an 18-39-1 mark over three campaigns under Dyce.

"Ryan is a proven winner, with a track record of developing players and leading successful teams," Redblacks president Adrian Sciarra said. "His vision, leadership, and competitiveness make him the right person to partner with Shawn Burke in leading our football club."
