The Montreal Alouettes announced Saturday that they named Jason Maas their new head coach.

Maas served as the offensive coordinator for the Saskatchewan Roughriders over the past two seasons.

"I am extremely pleased to be able to hire a coach of Jason's caliber, said general manager Danny Maciocia. "He has valuable CFL head coaching experience and is a true leader of men. Having been around him during my career and maintaining close contact over the years, I am convinced that Jason is the right person to help us continue our climb."

The 47-year-old last occupied a head coaching role with Edmonton from 2016 to 2019. He sported a 39-33 record with three playoff appearances.

"I'm very excited to join the Alouettes' big family, Maas said. "The team showed great things last season and I look forward to continuing and complementing the work Danny has done so we can be even more successful."

Maas' coaching career began in 2012 when he served as the quarterbacks coach with the Toronto Argonauts. He also worked as an offensive coordinator for the Ottawa Redblacks in 2015.

A former CFL quarterback, Maas played 11 seasons from 2000-2010. He spent five seasons in Edmonton where he won two Grey Cup titles in 2003 and 2005. He also had stints with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and Alouettes.

He racked up 17,126 passing yards, 81 touchdowns, and 64 interceptions over his CFL career.

Maciocia assumed the interim coaching role after firing Khari Jones following a 1-3 start to Montreal's 2022 campaign. The Alouettes concluded the season with a 9-9 record and lost the East Division final to the Grey Cup champion Toronto Argonauts.
