Tiger-Cats name Evans starter vs. Blue Bombers ahead of Grey Cup
The Hamilton Tiger-Cats will turn to quarterback Dane Evans against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the 108th Grey Cup on Sunday, coach Orlando Steinauer announced Wednesday.
The decision comes after Evans replaced Jeremiah Masoli last week in the East Final and sparked Hamilton to a 27-19 victory over the Toronto Argonauts. Evans finished the contest completing all 16 pass attempts for 249 yards and had three total touchdowns (one pass, two rushing).
Evans will start his second Grey Cup after lining up under center in 2019 against the Blue Bombers. He passed for 203 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions in a 33-12 defeat.
The 28-year-old threw for 787 yards, six touchdowns, and three picks this past regular season. He also added 114 rushing yards for three scores.
Hamilton will try to win its first Grey Cup at home since beating the Saskatchewan Roughriders in 1972.
