Tiger-Cats take Jake Burt with No. 1 pick in CFL draft
The Hamilton Tiger-Cats selected Boston College tight end Jake Burt with the first overall pick in the 2021 CFL Draft.
Burt spent last year on the New England Patriots' practice squad after going undrafted in the 2020 NFL Draft.
The 24-year-old recorded 15 receptions for 212 yards during his final season at Boston College in 2019. He finished his collegiate career with 307 receiving yards.
Hamilton chose first overall for the first time since taking Central Michigan wide receiver Mark Chapman in 2018.
The CFL draft underwent major changes due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The draft order was determined randomly and will follow a snake format due to the 2020 season's cancellation. The event will only consist of six rounds instead of eight.
The CFL is targeting to begin its 2021 regular season Aug. 5.
