Mitchell not cleared, Stampeders to start Arbuckle vs. Blue Bombers
The Calgary Stampeders named Nick Arbuckle their starting quarterback for Thursday's matchup with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
Although Bo Levi Mitchell returned to practice Tuesday, he was left off the Stampeders' Week 9 roster, according to Danny Austin of the Calgary Sun.
Arbuckle has performed well in the two-time Most Outstanding Player's absence, leading Calgary to a 5-2 record and victories in four of his last five starts.
The third-year passer threw for 189 yards, one touchdown, and one interception in last week's win over the Edmonton Eskimos.
Mitchell was aiming to return to the field against Winnipeg but hasn't yet been cleared to play. He's been on the six-game injured list since injuring his throwing arm in Week 3. Mitchell could be ready for a Week 10 date with the Montreal Alouettes.
