The CFL officially named Randy Ambrosie as its 14th commissioner at a press conference Wednesday.

"It's an honour to be afforded this opportunity to work on behalf of our Governors, our teams and, most importantly, our fans as our league's Commissioner," Ambrosie said. "My professional life has been marked by my passion for Canadian football and my passion for building businesses. It's a dream come true to be able to combine these on behalf of the CFL, which means so much to so many Canadians."

Ambrosie played nine seasons in the CFL as an offensive lineman for the Edmonton Eskimos, Toronto Argonauts, and Calgary Stampeders. He won the Grey Cup in 1993 with Edmonton.

The 54-year-old also served as a secretary of the CFL Players' Association before starting a business career.

"I know from experience that football is the ultimate team sport," Ambrosie said. "I'm confident that by working together, we can ensure this great league reaches its full potential. Let's get to work."

Ambrosie takes over for Jeffrey Orridge, who had served as commissioner since March 2015.
