Marcelo, 28, joins a second-place side five points adrift of city rivals Fenerbahce, with Kara Katallar holding an advantage of having two matches in hand.
The lumbering defender, who joined the Germans from perennial Dutch title-challengers PSV in 2013, has appeared in 19 Bundesliga matches this season with a goal in the club's 4-0 defeat of Ingolstadt in November.
