Borussia Dortmund's left-sided specialist has picked up his latest concern, withdrawing from the Portugal squad due to a muscular injury in his thigh, the Bundesliga club confirmed. Earlier in the week Guerreiro was sent home from international duty without explanation, according to the Portuguese Football Federation.
Guerreiro, 24, moved to Dortmund in June 2016, making 24 Bundesliga appearances during his first season in Germany before becoming an unfortunate magnet for ailments, including a serious ankle issue the following year. The French-born Caen academy product made just a half-dozen league starts the next season.
A left-back who was also employed as a midfielder while under Thomas Tuchel's watch, Guerreiro played the full 90 in all four of Portugal's World Cup matches, assisting on Pepe's goal in the knockout-stage defeat to Uruguay.
