Hertha's Stocker sees 3-match ban
Hertha Berlin midfielder Valentin Stocker has been slapped with a three-match ban for a dangerous challenge on Borussia Dortmund's Matthias Ginter during Friday's 1-1 draw at the Westfalenstadion.
The club announced the suspension Monday with a statement on its website, claiming the German Football Association (DFB) deemed Stocker's 90th-minute tackle on Ginter to be violent in nature.
Stocker, 27, was sent off by match official Patrick Ittrich, the second red card the ref brandished during the tilt between Bundesliga's fourth and fifth-place sides after Dortmund's Turkish teen Emre Mor was sent packing in the 84th minute.
Hertha and Stocker have decided against appealing the ban, meaning the Swiss international will miss Bundesliga clashes against unbeaten sides Koln and Hoffenheim and a midweek domestic cup visit to second-tier St. Pauli.
Stocker scored Hertha's goal six minutes after the interval, his second of the campaign before Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang levelled the scoreline in the 80th minute. The draw sees Hertha remain fourth and in a Champions League spot, one point clear of Dortmund.
