Jurgen Klopp is delving into his lengthy list of contacts in his homeland of Germany once again, with FC Augsburg defender Ragnar Klavan nearing a £4.2-million move to Liverpool.
The Reds' boss has already brought in Loris Karius and Joel Matip from the Bundesliga, as well as Sadio Mane from Southampton, and now BBC Sport's Phil McNulty understands Klavan will be the next player to arrive on Merseyside.
The 30-year-old Estonia captain would offer cover to Mamadou Sakho, who is struggling with an Achilles tendon issue, and also help fill a void left by the departures of the released Kolo Toure and Fenerbahce new boy Martin Skrtel.
There are some concerns over the fitness of Matip too, after the summer signing from FC Schalke 04 suffered an ankle injury in a friendly at Wigan Athletic on Sunday. Klopp hopes the ailment is only minor, but there is no news from an assessment by the club's medical staff yet.

The Liverpool squad undergoing a grueling preseason of three sessions a day and nine friendlies before kicking off its campaign at Arsenal on Aug. 14. By that time, Klavan might not be the last to sign terms with the Reds.
"We have a few players, maybe who want to leave us and I am pretty sure it will happen - and one or two more players will join us from other clubs," Klopp said Sunday. "It's a long time until the 31st of August and we have to work a little bit."
Liverpool's next warmup match is Wednesday at Huddersfield Town.
