Pep Guardiola's Champions League semi-final curse
Despite winning two Champions League titles at the helm of Barcelona in 2008-09 and 2010-11, famed gaffer and future Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola hasn't been able to advance beyond the semi-finals in any of his last four attempts.
Antoine Griezmann's 54th-minute away goal was enough for Atletico Madrid to book its second Champions League final berth in three seasons as the visitors took the two-legged clash 2-2 on aggregate.

Bayern's defeat has become something of a habit for Guardiola, who has now seen his sides booted from Europe's top-tier tournament at the semi-finals stage in his last four attempts. The former defensive midfielder did not manage during the 2012-13 season after taking a sabbatical between appointments.
Here's a look at how Guardiola's sides have fared in the Catalan gaffer's last seven Champions League semi-finals:
| Year | Club | Opp. | Result |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2009 | Barcelona | Chelsea | 1-1 W |
| 2010 | Barcelona | Inter Milan | 2-3 L |
| 2011 | Barcelona | Real Madrid | 3-1 W |
| 2012 | Barcelona | Chelsea | 2-3 L |
| 2014 | Bayern | Real Madrid | 0-5 L |
| 2015 | Bayern | Barcelona | 3-5 L |
| 2016 | Bayern | Atletico | 2-2 L |
Before Tuesday's result at the Allianz Arena, the last three sides to best Guardiola in the semi-finals have all gone on to win the tournament. That bodes well for Diego Simeone's lot ahead of the May 28 final in Milan.
