It's unclear if this rematch will be for the undisputed championship. Usyk, who is presently the undisputed heavyweight champion, is reportedly expected to be stripped of his IBF title or vacate the championship. The Ukrainian boxer has requested the federation grant him an exception to keep the rematch between him and Fury for the undisputed crown.
Usyk defeated Fury by split decision on May 18 to become the first undisputed heavyweight champion since 2000 and the first of the four-belt era. It was the first loss of Fury's illustrious career.
The boxers agreed to a two-fight deal before the first event took place.
The second bout was reportedly expected to happen in mid-October before Wednesday's announcement locked in the new December date.
