Tennis star Carlos Alcaraz will make his long-awaited return from a wrist injury at the US Open, he announced Thursday on social media.
The World No. 2 hasn't played since withdrawing from the Barcelona Open in April following his opening-round victory over Otto Virtanen.
Alcaraz's status for the American Slam was in doubt after he withdrew from the Cincinnati Open earlier this month. The tournament runs from Aug. 23 to Sept. 13.
The Spaniard will attempt to defend his US Open title after missing two consecutive majors.
Alcaraz's first major triumph came four years ago in Flushing Meadows when he defeated Casper Ruud in four sets. He owns a 24-3 record at the US Open and has made the second week in four of his five main-draw appearances.
Alcaraz parted ways with longtime coach Juan Carlos Ferrero prior to this season. However, he still won this year's Australian Open, becoming the youngest player in history to complete the career Grand Slam in men's singles play.
Alcaraz's other title this year came at the Qatar Open in February.
