Eubanks thrills Wimbledon crowd in last-16 win over 5-seed Tsitsipas
Christopher Eubanks is earning even more fans in 2023.
The American is headed to the Wimbledon quarterfinals after besting No. 5 seed Stefanos Tsitsipas in five sets Monday.
Eubanks, who's openly expressed his dislike for playing on grass, won 3-6, 7-6 (4), 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 on Court 2.
"The grass and I have had a very strenuous relationship over the year, but right now, I think it's my best friend," the tournament debutant told BBC Sport after the match.
Eubanks had to wrestle his way back into the match to eventually win, but he still played the entertainer at the All England Club. He cupped his ear to the crowd after breaking in the final set and regularly flashed his infectious smile.
"I feel I'm living a dream right now. This is an absolutely insane," he said. "I've tried to block everything out and focus on the next match, but as cliched as it sounds, when you rattle off all that stuff (into his first Grand Slam quarterfinal) it's surreal, it's unbelievable. I can't believe this."
Eubanks is now on a nine-match winning streak and will face 2021 US Open winner Daniil Medvedev in the next round.
