Vlatko Andonovski has been named the new head coach of the United States women's national team, U.S. Soccer president Carlos Cordeiro announced.

Andonovski replaces Jill Ellis - who guided the United States to its fourth Women's World Cup title last summer - to become the ninth head coach in the national team's history.

"It's a huge honor and I’m very excited to get started with this group of players and staff as we work towards continued success for this program. All of the talented coaches and players that have come before have built a legendary tradition of excellence and I’m committed to working very hard to continue to move this program forward."

The 43-year-old's resume is highlighted by a seven-year tenure as a head coach in the National Women’s Soccer League; he won two league titles and was named NWSL Coach of the Year twice during spells at FC Kansas City and Reign FC.

"We are thrilled to welcome Vlatko to the U.S. Soccer family. As one of the most accomplished coaches in the NWSL history, he’s proven he can help world-class players reach their peak, inspire his teams, and win championships," Cordeiro said.

"He is widely respected by players and leaders across our soccer community, and he has the work ethic and winning mentality to guide the greatest women’s soccer program in history into their next era of success."

The native of North Macedonia will make his debut Nov. 7 during a friendly against Sweden.

Ellis, who will remain with U.S. Soccer as an ambassador, announced her departure shortly after winning her second Women's World Cup title in July.
