Serena Williams has been voted The Associated Press Female Athlete of the Year for the fifth time.
The 37-year-old did not win a Grand Slam title in 2018, but reached the final at both Wimbledon and the U.S. Open after giving birth to her daughter in September 2017 and then recovering from four surgeries for blood clots relating to the pregnancy.
Gymnast Simone Biles finished second in the voting. She was followed by Notre Dame basketball player Arike Ogunbowale, snowboarder Chloe Kim, and swimmer Katie Ledecky.
Williams previously won the AP award in 2002, 2009, 2013, and 2015.
