In the press conference following Germany's 7-1 drubbing of Brazil, coach Luiz Felipe Scolari embraced the brunt of the blame for his side's disastrous showing.

Before taking questions from the assembled media, Scolari apologized for his team's performance, "I'm sorry we were unable to get to the final. We will work to continue. Thanks to the fans for being there throughout."

Other choice quotes:

"I am responsible for this catastrophic result. I made the choices. I was responsible."

"What happened today had little to do with how we had been playing. We lost control. That's not normal, but it happens."

"I couldn't change anything. It was one goal after the other. There was nothing to be done during that breakdown."

"I'm going to be remembered because I lost 7-1, but this is the risk I knew I was taking when I accepted this responsibility."

"A coach makes choices and has to deal with consequences. I don't  have any regrets for the choices I made."

"My team blanked out."
