While Argentina's 1-0 win over Belgium in the quarterfinals may not have been the most exciting match of the tournament, it wasn't without brilliant moments. Few matches involving Lionel Messi ever are.
In the 27th minute, with his side already up a goal, Messi took the ball in his own defensive third, then, with two defenders guarding him, took the briefest of glances up the pitch before firing a perfect through ball just out of reach of two more defenders, and right in the path of the oncoming Angel Di Maria.
What's so remarkable about this pass — beyond the ball finding its way through four players — is that it proves Messi to be a superstar at any position, even a deep lying midfielder.
