Uruguay have been handed a lifeline.
Claudio Marchisio has been shown a straight red card in the 59th minute for a tackle on Arevalo Rios, as the midfielder tried to recover from a heavy touch but his outstretched foot carved across the shin of the Uruguayan.
The Mexican official wasted no time brandishing the card, much to the astonishment of Marchisio.
