Brazil was dealt an injury blow as the 2018 World Cup group stage came to a close, and it seems an unexpected foe may be to blame.
Left-back Marcelo, one the squad's most senior players, limped out of the win over Serbia on Wednesday. Rumours have swirled as to what the cause of the issue may be, but team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar looked to put the speculation to bed.
"Marcelo has a medical history with this kind of injury," Lasmar told ESPN on Wednesday. "Maybe it was the hotel's mattress, which was a bit more soft than usual.
"But (the injury) happened because he made a rotation movement and felt uncomfortable after. He could not continue in the game, because his muscles became locked up."
Unsurprisingly, bed-related injuries are not all that common in sport, but this is certainly an issue for head coach Tite to lose sleep over this weekend.
Tite, already without winger Douglas Costa for Wednesday's game, will be loathe to consider heading into the knockout stage without a player as important as Marcelo as Brazil steels itself to challenge for a sixth World Cup triumph.
Should the Real Madrid man not recover in time for Monday's last-16 tie against Mexico, however, Brazil should not be caught napping - Filipe Luis, who replaced Marcelo on Wednesday, should be ready to deputise once again.
