U.S. women's goalies may be forced to remove Statue of Liberty image from masks
United States netminders Nicole Hensley and Alex Rigsby may be forced to remove images of the Statue of Liberty from their masks, according to USA Today's Kevin Allen.
The IOC is reportedly investigating into whether the images on the masks violate the rule from the IOC Guidelines Regarding Authorized Identifications, that states: "No item may feature the wording or lyrics from national anthems, motivational words, public/political messaging, or slogans related to national identity," according to Allen.
Hensley has an image of the statue on the left side of her mask, while Rigsby has one under her chin.
USA Hockey spokesman David Fischer said "discussions are ongoing," according to Allen, and that a decision on the matter should come ahead of the team's game against the Olympic Athletes of Russia on Tuesday morning.
