Dream beat Liberty to snag final playoff spot
The Atlanta Dream clinched the last spot in the 2024 playoffs after their 78-67 victory over the No. 1 seed New York Liberty.
The Chicago Sky and Washington Mystics were eliminated as a result of Atlanta's win.
The Dream's Tina Charles led the way with a double-double, scoring 10 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. The veteran center only needed three rebounds to pass WNBA legend Sylvia Fowles for the league's all-time rebounding record, and she did so midway through the first quarter.
Charles, a native of New York, is the only WNBA player with at least 7,000 points and 4,000 rebounds and is second in career scoring behind the Phoenix Mercury's Diana Taurasi.
Liberty star Breanna Stewart didn't play in the second half but still managed to score a game-high 16 points. Nyara Sabally was the only other New York player to score in double figures.
The Dream will stay in New York as they're set to play the Liberty in the opening round of the postseason.
Atlanta won its final three contests of the season to finish with a record of 15-25.
