A record-breaking crowd was on hand to watch the New York Liberty host the Las Vegas Aces in Game 3 of the WNBA Finals.
There were 17,143 fans at Barclays Center on Sunday, marking the largest gate attendance for a WNBA Finals game in league history, according to Alexa Philippou of ESPN.
The Liberty defeated the Aces 87-73 to improve to 2-1 in the best-of-five series and claim their first WNBA Finals win since 1999. Game 4 will take place Wednesday in Brooklyn.
"We knew that our fans were going to be behind us and New York was going to be watching and supporting," Liberty star Jonquel Jones said. "And that's what we wanted to do, go out there and play with a lot of pride and a lot of heart."
As a whole, the WNBA saw a 16% increase in attendance for the 2023 regular season compared to last year. The highest-attended game this season was the Aces' Sept. 10 matchup against the Phoenix Mercury, which drew a crowd of 17,406.
