The Washington Mystics announced bench boss Mike Thibault is retiring from coaching and his son, Eric Thibault, is being promoted to head coach.
Mike Thibault will continue to work for the team as general manager. He was Washington's head coach for 10 seasons, accumulating a 379-289 (.567) record while simultaneously serving as GM. Thibault won Coach of the Year three times and led the franchise to two WNBA Finals appearances, winning the championship in 2019.
Eric Thibault, 35, has been an assistant coach with the Mystics for 10 seasons, spending the last four as associate head coach. He directed much of the club's player development.
The Mystics finished last season with a 22-14 record. They then lost to the Seattle Storm in the first round of the playoffs.
