Atlanta Dream shooting guard Rhyne Howard has been named the 2022 Rookie of the Year, the WNBA announced Thursday.
Howard led all rookies with averages of 16.2 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 1.6 steals per game over 31.3 minutes per contest. She also finished third in the league in 3-pointers made with 85, a single-season record for a rookie.
Additionally, the Kentucky product earned an All-Star berth and won all four Rookie of the Month awards.
Howard received 53 out of 56 votes for Rookie of the Year, with Mystics center/forward Shakira Austin and Indiana Fever forward NaLyssa Smith tallying the remaining three.
The Dream traded up in the 2022 draft to select Howard first overall. In exchange, they sent the Washington Mystics the No. 3 pick, a second-rounder, and the right to swap 2023 first-round picks with the Los Angeles Sparks.
The league also released the All-Rookie team, headlined by Howard, Austin, and Smith. Fever center Queen Egbo and Chicago Sky wing Rebekah Gardner received All-Rookie nods as well.
