Renney retiring as Hockey Canada CEO

Tom Renney announced Wednesday he's retiring as Hockey Canada's CEO.

Renney took the position in 2014 and will be replaced by Scott Smith in July.

"This is a decision I have been preparing for over the past year and while it is never easy, I know the time is right and I am grateful for the past eight years," Renney said.

During Renney's time atop Canada's hockey program, the men's, women's, and paralympic teams combined to win nine gold medals and 28 medals overall across multiple levels of competition.

Smith has worked for Hockey Canada since 1995. He was named chief operating officer in 2007.
