Canada takes opening-leg win of Olympic play-in against Jamaica
The Canadian women's soccer team scored a 2-0 win in Jamaica on Friday in CONCACAF Olympic play-in action.
Nichelle Prince found the back of the net in the 18th minute to open the scoring. Adriana Leon - who was making her 100th appearance for Canada - buried her 30th career goal to seal the victory in stoppage time.
Kailen Sheridan faced two shots on target from Jamaica en route to the clean sheet.
The victory was Canada's first in Jamaica, with the nation's most recent win in the Caribbean region coming in 1991.
The Canadian women now control their own destiny ahead of the return leg in Toronto on Tuesday at BMO Field. With a victory on aggregate, Canada will qualify for the 2024 Olympics in Paris. It would be the nation's fifth straight appearance at the Olympics.
