Serie A club Carpi was temporarily evicted from its Serie A stadium and unable to practise Thursday in a twist that left its players and coach without immediate answers.

The newly-promoted Italian side found itself locked out of the Stadio Alberto Braglia in Modena, where it plays all its home games. Despite making the jump to Serie A for the first time this year, Carpi was forced to abandon its true home ground, the Stadio Sandro Cabassi, as it failed to meet requirements.

As a result, Carpi agreed to move into Modena's stadium - which is owned by the city council - as a tenant.

But the Biancorossi arrived at the stadium with the gates closed, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

The reason wasn't clear, but reports indicated that Carpi may have failed to pay its rent on time.

The club, however, emphatically denied those claims, confirming it already deposited the first of 12 installments and will indeed play its home fixture against Bologna on Saturday.

On top of locking out Carpi, Modena's president Antonio Caliendo tried to schedule training for his youth side on that matchday.

Carpi's now reconsidering whether to call Modena home for the remainder of the Serie A campaign, adding it cannot allow itself "to be held hostage."

It's currently in 19th place in the league, with just a single win through eight matches.
