It took 15 games, but Benevento Calcio finally tasted some success.
On Sunday, Benevento, which kicked off the Serie A season with 14 consecutive defeats, tallied its first-ever point in the top flight of Italian football. Hosting AC Milan at Stadio Ciro Vigorito, the Sorcerers were on the verge of a 15th-straight loss as they entered second-half stoppage time trailing by a goal.
Then, in the 95th minute, some magic happened. Alberto Brignoli, their goalkeeper, headed a free-kick past his counterpart, Gianluigi Donnarumma, resulting in a 2-2 draw that left the Rossoneri's supporters absolutely stunned.
Brignoli became the first 'keeper to score in Serie A since Reggina 1914's Massimo Taibi did so in 2001.
"I closed my eyes and dived like a goalkeeper, not a striker," Brignoli said, according to BT Sport Football.
The game marked former Milan midfielder Gennaro Gattuso's debut as the club's manager.
