Poulin named PWHL Montreal captain
Marie-Philip Poulin was named PWHL Montreal's first captain on Friday, the team announced.
Erin Ambrose, Kristin O'Neill, and Laura Stacey were named alternate captains.
Poulin, 32, has captained the Canadian national team since the 2015 World Championships.
The Beauceville, Quebec native is among the most decorated players in women's hockey history. Poulin was a three-time Most Valuable Player in the CWHL and a two-time league champion. She also captured the PWHPA title last season as the top-scoring player.
Internationally, Poulin has accumulated three Olympic gold medals - she scored the game-winning goal in each final - plus three World Championship golds. Only Hayley Wickenheiser has more than Poulin's 35 career points at the Olympics, and her 73 total points at the Worlds rank fifth.
Poulin also captained Boston University for two seasons and donned the "C" with the CWHL's Les Canadiennes de Montreal in the final campaign.
PWHL Montreal commences its inaugural season on Jan. 2 against Ottawa, before hosting its first game at Verdun Auditorium on Jan. 13.
