Michael Brennan is once again a winner on the PGA TOUR with his second career victory coming at a crucial time on the calendar.
The 24-year-old entered the week just outside the top 100 on the FedEx Cup standings needing at least a 3rd-place finish or better to leap into the top 70 and make the playoffs. He did more than that, firing a final-round 64 to beat Beau Hossler by three strokes and claim the Wyndham Championship.
That saw him skyrocket 58 places on the board and into 47th spot heading to the playoff opener in Memphis next week.
Brennan entered the day tied with Hossler in the final group but pulled away with an electric stretch on the front nine at Sedgefield. He reeled off five birdies in a row on holes 4-8 to put himself clear of all chasers and never look back.
His victory continues an American youth resurgence on the PGA TOUR over the past month with 21-year-old Jackson Koivun and 24-year-old Michael Thorbjornsen also hoisting a trophy.
