If we were grading majors by how many people are in contention heading to Sunday, then the PGA Championship at Aronimink is without question the best tournament we've ever seen.
With 54 holes down and just 18 to play, there is a record 22 players within four shots of Alex Smalley's lead. According to Justin Ray of the Twenty First Group, that shatters the previous mark of 18 heading to the final round of a PGA Championship.
Playing in just his fifth career major, Smalley overcame a disastrous opening stretch to snag the solo lead with five birdies on the back nine. However, closing the job will be a monumental task given the star-studded chase pack featuring the likes of Jon Rahm, Ludvig Aberg, Rory McIlroy, Xander Schauffele, and Patrick Reed.
