Scheffler most bet to win The Open despite lack of success at major
Scottie Scheffler is the most backed golfer to win the Open Championship at ESPN BET and theScore Bet, even though he hasn't found success at the only major across the pond.
The World No. 1 and +500 tournament favorite has garnered 23% of the bets and 27% of the handle on the outright market over the past week. Despite the betting action, Scheffler's odds have lengthened from their previous low of +450.
Scheffler has played in four Open Championships but has never finished inside the top five, and he has only two top-20 results. He enters the week at Royal Portrush coming off a T8 result at the Scottish Open, a T6 at the Travelers Championship, and a T6 at the U.S. Open.
Rory McIlroy (+700) and Jon Rahm (+1200) have garnered the most bets after Scheffler. McIlroy, competing in his home country of Northern Ireland, has attracted 15% of the bets and 14% of the handle, while Rahm has received 12% of the bets and 15% of the handle.
Tommy Fleetwood (+2200) and Viktor Hovland (+2500) round out the top five, both getting 9% of the bets.

Fleetwood to make the cut (-500) also received the fourth most bets of any available market. He missed it at last year's Open, ending a streak of six made cuts at the oldest major.
Despite not getting love from the outright market, Xander Schauffele is the most popular bet to finish in the top 20. He's received 8% of the bets and 11% of the handle placed on the top-20 market. The defending champion has finished inside the top 20 in five of the seven Open Championships he's played with zero missed cuts, and he's placed T20 or better in 25 of his 33 career major appearances. His top-20 odds at Royal Portrush are +130, an implied probability of 43.5%.
