Spieth withdraws for 1st time in TOUR career with neck injury

Jordan Spieth withdrew Thursday during the first round of the Travelers Championship due to a neck injury.

The exit is the first time in Spieth's 297 PGA TOUR starts that he's withdrawn mid-event.

Spieth was 5-over through 12 holes, carding five bogeys before withdrawing.

"I just can't do it, man. I just can't finish a backswing," Spieth said on the 12th hole, according to Normal Sports' Kyle Porter.

Spieth said he woke up Thursday morning with neck pain and received treatment earlier but felt progressively worse as the round continued, according to Golfweek's David Dusek.

The 31-year-old won the Travelers in 2017 and has made 13 of 15 cuts this season.
