Scottie and the rest: Contender tiers for U.S. Open

Scottie Scheffler once again stands alone heading into this week's U.S. Open at Oakmont. The +270 favorite is getting the same amount of respect that Tiger Woods received from oddsmakers in his prime. After Scottie, where do Bryson DeChambeau, Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm and the rest of the top contenders stack up for the season's third major? See full article.

No drive or driver: Rory limps into Oakmont looking for answers

2025 was shaping up to be Rory's year after McIlroy completed the career grand slam with his epic Masters win. That came on the heels of trophies at Pebble Beach and TPC Sawgrass earlier in the season - by far his best-ever start to a PGA TOUR season. However, the 36-year-old has looked like a different man since putting on that green jacket and comes to Oakmont off the worst finish of his career at last week's Canadian Open. McIlroy admitted in Canada that he found it harder to grind on the range after winning the Masters and has battled driver issues since his was deemed nonconforming at the PGA Championship. Did a weekend full of driver testing get McIlroy back on track for Oakmont? We'll find out Thursday morning. See full article.

Schauffele loves difficult U.S. Open: 'Maybe I'm just sick'

With five-inch-thick rough and lightning-fast greens, the U.S. Open is unquestionably golf's most diabolical test each year. It's enough to drive even the world's best crazy, but that's not how Xander Schauffele sees it. While he's yet to win a U.S. Open, Schauffele has arguably been the best player in the event since he debuted eight years ago. He's posted seven top-10 showings in the U.S. Open - his 14th-place finish in 2022 was his worst result. Read full article.

With or without trees, Oakmont has stood the test of time

If the U.S. Open ranks as golf's toughest test every year, consider Oakmont the final boss. The Pittsburgh-area golf course has a well-earned reputation as the most difficult challenge of any U.S. Open layout, and 2025 should be no different. While the course looks significantly different following a massive amount of tree removal, the test has not lessened for the world's best. Five-inch rough just a couple of yards off the fairway awaits, and the greens should run faster than any the players will see this year. See full article.

U.S. Open betting preview: Who can beat Scheffler at Oakmont?

Kevin C. Cox / Getty Images Sport / Getty

Scheffler once again enters a major championship as the overwhelming favorite, thanks to his incredible form as of late with three wins in his last four starts. Oakmont places a premium on controlling your ball and having patience around the challenging layout - essentially the two things Scheffler does significantly better than anybody in the world. Defending champion DeChambeau is next on the odds board, but it's a pair of top names at +1,200 that are perhaps the most intriguing. See full article.
