Thomas, Koepka headline notables to miss cut

The PGA Championship ended early for a number of top names at Quail Hollow, with Justin Thomas, Brooks Koepka, Hideki Matsuyama, and Dustin Johnson headlining the list of players to miss the 36-hole cut.

This week marked the latest in a series of struggles at majors for both Thomas and Koepka, as both missed the cut for a second straight major championship. The two have combined for just one top-10 finish through the last eight majors.

Thomas came close, but three bogeys over his final five holes doomed the world's No. 5 player. Koepka barely threatened from the jump, posting rounds of 76 and 75 to miss the cut at the PGA Championship for the first time in his career.

Matsuyama falling one shy of the 1-over cutline means the longest active streak for made cuts at majors is over at 19. The Japanese star hadn't missed one since the 2019 Open Championship.

Johnson used to be a mainstay on major leaderboards, but the former World No. 1 has been on a dreadful run of form in golf's biggest events since joining LIV. He's now missed the cut in five of his last seven majors, with a 31st-place showing at last year's Open Championship his best result.

Other notables to miss the cut include Shane Lowry, Jordan Spieth, Ludvig Aberg, Patrick Cantlay, Phil Mickelson, and Cam Smith.
