Less than one week after becoming the first amateur to win a PGA TOUR event since 1991, Nick Dunlap announced Thursday he's forgoing his sophomore season at Alabama and turning pro.
"It was the easiest, hardest decision that I've ever had to make," Dunlap said. "I was very fortunate that everyone had the same opinion about it, and my teammates were awesome and very supportive. It goes back to the family that Alabama has; they were very supportive and wanted me to chase my dreams."
Dunlap won The American Express by one shot last weekend. The victory earned him a two-year TOUR exemption, but he opted to skip out on this week's Farmers Insurance Open while deciding.
The 20-year-old can compete at all of this year's TOUR signature events and the Masters, U.S. Open, and PGA Championship. Dunlap is also eligible to start earning FedEx Cup points but won't receive any retroactively for his victory.
Dunlap will compete in his first tournament as a pro at next week's Pebble Beach Pro-Am.
