Rory McIlroy made his feelings about LIV Golf abundantly clear once again Thursday at the Scottish Open.
"If LIV Golf was the last place on Earth to play golf, I would retire," McIlroy said, according to GOLF Magazine's Sean Zak. "That's how I feel about it."
PIF recently proposed a "Best of Both Worlds" offer to the TOUR, which included McIlroy and Tiger Woods taking ownership of LIV teams. The rejected idea came to light Tuesday via documents obtained by U.S. Congress.
McIlroy has remained steadfast in his position against the rival circuit since its inception in 2022.
"I still hate LIV. Like, I hate LIV," he said in June after details of the PIF-TOUR merger were announced. "I hope it goes away. And I fully expect that it does."
Xander Schauffele and Jordan Spieth said Wednesday that trust has to be earned back after TOUR commissioner Jay Monahan left players in the dark about the PIF-TOUR merger.
"Maybe not as serious for me because I sort of knew what was going on, so I wasn't quite as in the dark as some of the other guys," McIlroy said, according to Sports Illustrated's Bob Harig. "But yeah, people felt blindsided by it, and I can obviously understand why Jordan and Xander and a lot of other guys would feel that way."
McIlroy is one of five player directors with the PGA TOUR's policy board negotiating a final agreement with PIF.
