Varner calls out fellow LIV golfers: 'It's about the damn money'
Harold Varner takes issue with fellow LIV golfers claiming they joined the Saudi-backed circuit in an effort to improve the game.
"They're full of shit; they're growing their pockets," Varner said in a recent interview with The Washington Post's Kent Babb. "I tell them all the time, all of them: You didn't come here to f-----g grow the f-----g game."
He added, "The Tour has made it where they say it's not about the money. I don't care what anyone says. It's about the damn money."
Varner defected to LIV Golf in August and made his reasoning for joining the Greg Norman-fronted rival league clear in an Instagram post.
"The opportunity to join LIV Golf is simply too good of a financial breakthrough for me to pass by," he wrote. "I know what it means to grow up without much.
"This money is going to ensure that my kid and future Varners will have a solid base to start on - and a life I could have only dreamt about growing up."
Varner is making his second consecutive appearance at the Masters beginning April 6. He finished tied for 23rd at the prestigious event last year.
The 32-year-old is one of 18 LIV golfers set to tee off at Augusta National on Thursday. Varner weighed in on any potential awkwardness with players who opted to stick with the PGA TOUR.
"These f---ers aren't mad," he said. "They're just mad that you're f-----g with their money. I think some people are jealous, and that's just the way it is."
Varner also recently took aim at the media for what he perceives as a bias against LIV Golf.
"Yeah, I want to play well (at the Masters)," he said, per Golf Monthly's Andrew Wright. "Everyone thinks we suck now, so I want to play great."
He continued, "You all write it, and I just read it. I don't pay attention. ... It's not like 'Space Jam' where they took our talents away, so I'm super excited. ... They used to write nice stuff, but now it's just chaos.
"But I work well in chaos, so I'll be good."
