John Daly said he "begged" LIV Golf CEO Greg Norman for a spot on the Saudi-backed circuit during a recent interview with Piers Morgan.
"I play two-to-three pro-ams every week on the Champions Tour, and you know, we don't play for a lot of money on the Champions Tour," Daly said. "So, I almost feel like, 'OK, I'm not getting a lot out of this. What are we doing?'
"Look, I'd rather play with amateurs than the pros sometimes, but we've gotta get compensated for that, and the LIV tour is giving players that. They play pro-ams, it's a big party, they play for a lot of money, which these guys that are on that tour deserve that money."
Daly added, "I think there's a lot of others guys that deserve that money, especially this old man."
However, it seems the two-time major winner's efforts to join LIV Golf were in vain because Norman said Daly was "too old."
Seven of eight events on the lucrative LIV Golf's schedule have purses of $25 million, while the final event will carry a $50-million purse.
PGA TOUR commissioner Jay Monahan said in June that he couldn't contend with the Saudi-backed financing of LIV Golf while announcing purse increases for eight different PGA events beginning in 2023.
Daly, 56, won the PGA Championship in 1991 and The Open Championship in 1995.
