J.T. Poston wins John Deere Classic
Poston shot rounds of 62, 65, 67, and 69 this week at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Illinois, to complete just the third wire-to-wire victory in the history of the John Deere Classic. He finished at 21-under. It's the second PGA TOUR victory of his career.
The top three all earned spots in the upcoming Open Championship at St. Andrews, which tees off July 14.
Poston entered the final round with a three-stroke lead over three players, including Stallings and Grillo.
The 29-year-old opened Sunday's round with three straight birdies but followed that up with a par and two bogeys on the next three. He then went on to make 10 straight pars before a birdie at the par-5 17th to get to 2-under for his round.
It had been nearly three years since Poston's first TOUR victory, which came in August 2019 when he shot a final-round 62 to secure the Wyndham Championship over Webb Simpson.
Nick Hardy, who is from Illinois, made two eagles Sunday - one being at the par-4 14th - en route to posting the lowest round of the day with a 7-under 64. The 26-year-old's final-round run moved him into a tie for 30th.
Next on the TOUR schedule is both the Genesis Scottish Open in Scotland and the Barbasol Championship in Kentucky. The two events are co-sanctioned by the PGA TOUR and DP World Tour this year. The Barbasol Championship offers 300 FedEx Cup points for the winner, while the Scottish Open winner receives 500 points.
