Woods: 'I hit 1,000 putts out there' in Round 3
It was a score to forget for Tiger Woods on Saturday at the Masters, but the five-time champion managed to keep things lighthearted after posting a 6-over 78.
Woods needed a whopping 36 putts en route to his career-worst score at Augusta National. He offered a straightforward explanation for what happened on the challenging greens.
"I was hitting too many putts," Woods said with a chuckle on the CBS broadcast. "It was like putting practice. I hit 1,000 putts out there today."
The first sign that it would be a difficult day for Woods on the greens came at No. 5 when he four-putted, including three putts from within six feet.
Things didn't improve over the day as he also finished with four three-putts. The performance made it virtually impossible for Woods to score at the iconic layout.
"Honestly, I didn't really feel like I hit it all that bad," Woods said. "I just had absolutely zero feel for the greens, and it showed."
The fact Woods is even playing this week, let alone made the cut, is astonishing considering what the last 20 months have brought the 15-time major winner.
Woods is 15 shots off the current lead, but don't expect the 46-year-old to take it easy Sunday as he enters the final round with a clear goal.
"Maybe I shoot 66 and get back to even par, right where I started," he said.
