Sam Burns and Tom Hoge are atop the leaderboard at TPC Sawgrass after two rounds as The Players Championship finally reached the halfway point Sunday afternoon.
Burns' 3-under 69 set the early total of 7-under in the clubhouse with Hoge able to match shortly afterward. The pair sit one clear of Erik van Rooyen - who fired the lowest score of Round 2 with a 5-under 67 - and Harold Varner III.

With weather delays wreaking havoc on the schedule across the opening three days of play, half the field was still on the course Sunday to finish the opening 36 holes and get to a cut. The players now get a brief break before heading out for Round 3 in new threesomes off both No. 10 and No. 1 tees beginning at 2:50 p.m. ET.
The players who played most of their golf Saturday were severely punished by the incredibly difficult conditions; Doug Ghim is the only player inside the top-16 from that wave. While the weather was frigid on Sunday morning, scoring conditions were significantly improved without the 35 mph winds from earlier in the weekend.
Some big names are lurking within five shots of the lead at the halfway point, as Jon Rahm and Justin Thomas sit at 3-under with Dustin Johnson and Daniel Berger at 2-under.
The cut crept to 2-over late in the second round which will allow Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler to play the weekend. Other players who had to battle the conditions on Saturday weren't so lucky, with superstars Brooks Koepka, Xander Schauffele, and Jordan Spieth among those to miss the cut.
