Harris English defeated Kramer Hickok in a marathon playoff at the Travelers Championship, birdieing the eighth extra hole to secure his second victory of the year.

After English birdied two of his final three holes in regulation to set the clubhouse lead at 13-under par, Hickok knocked in an 8-footer, forcing the playoff and setting the stage for one of the most dramatic finishes on the PGA TOUR in recent memory.

The golfers exchanged blows in the early stages of the extra holes. The two knocked in nervy par saves on the first playoff hole, then English made a miraculous par save from a fried egg lie on the second hole.

Hickok repeatedly made one clutch par putt after another as the pair played on. At one point, he hit six straight putts between 4-10 feet that, if he were to have missed, would have lost the tournament.

The playoff appeared to be on the brink of finishing on the seventh extra hole. English stuffed his approach to 7 feet, then Hickok blew his length birdie effort by 15 feet. However, Hickok managed to make the comebacker for par, and English failed to seal the victory.

But on the following hole and the sixth time the players took on the 18th at TPC River Highlands, English finally buried the playoff's first birdie to claim the fourth PGA TOUR title of his career.

The showdown between English and Hickok tied the record for longest playoff on the PGA TOUR since 1950.

English also won the Tournament of Champions earlier in 2021.

Here's how the top of the leaderboard finished from Cromwell, Connecticut.
