Garrick Higgo erased a six-shot deficit with a final-round 68 on Sunday to win the Palmetto Championship at Congaree for his first PGA TOUR victory.

The 22-year-old South African was aided by 54-hole leader Chesson Hadley's collapse. Hadley led by four going into the final round but shot a 4-over 75, with bogeys on his final three holes, to hand Higgo the title.

Higgo, who was making only his second start on the PGA TOUR, now has three wins in his past five starts. Higgo won twice in a three-tournament stretch on the European Tour before coming over to the United States to make his debut at the PGA Championship, where he tied for 64th.

With his victory, Higgo secures full PGA TOUR membership for the next two seasons and punches his ticket to the 2022 Masters. He's also climbed to No. 39 in the Official World Golf Ranking, and he's become the first South African winner on the PGA TOUR aged 22 or younger since Gary Player in 1958, according to Twenty First Group's Justin Ray.

Here's how the top of the leaderboard finished:

Place Player To Par R4 Score
1 Garrick Higgo -11 68
T2 Hudson Swafford -10 66
T2 Doc Redman -10 67
T2 Jhonattan Vegas -10 67
T2 Tyrrell Hatton -10 68
T2 Bo Van Pelt -10 68
T2 Chesson Hadley -10 75

The PGA TOUR heads to Torrey Pines next week for the 121st U.S. Open.
