Woodland in 3-way tie atop leaderboard at Wells Fargo Championship
Gary Woodland shares the 36-hole lead with Matt Wallace and Patrick Rodgers following Round 2 of the Wells Fargo Championship in Charlotte, N.C.
Woodland, who has dealt with injuries and struggled to find consistency since his 2019 U.S. Open win, posted a 2-under 69 at Quail Hollow Club to sit at 6-under for the event.
"My body's great. It's allowing me to do that, which is nice," Woodland said about the recent work he's put into his game, according to TeeScripts. "I've seen some shots this week that I just haven't seen in a long time. The golf swing feels so much better. Confidence has gone way up, which I did not have really in the last year."
Woodland and company hold a one-shot edge over Kramer Hickok, but they might be more worried about Rory McIlroy, who is only two shots off the pace.
The four-time major winner fired a 5-under 66 Friday - the second-lowest score of the day - to vault into a share of fifth at a tournament he's won twice in his career.

Phil Mickelson was 11 shots worse in Round 2 than he was Thursday. He dropped into a tie for 10th at 3-under with a 75 that consisted of three bogies and a double-bogey.
Jon Rahm snapped his longest active cuts-made streak of 22 on the PGA TOUR. His 70 in Round 2 wasn't good enough to climb out of the hole his opening-round 76 put him in.
Patrick Cantlay, Will Zalatoris, Tony Finau, and Rickie Fowler, who shot 70-77, all missed the cut.
