Camilo Villegas fired an 8-under 64 in Round 1 of the Valero Texas Open to hold a two-shot lead at the conclusion of Thursday's action.
The Colombian, who secured conditional status for the remainder of the PGA Tour season after a tied-for-eighth result at the Honda Classic, bogeyed his first hole in Round 1 but rebounded with nine birdies, including a chip-in on his last hole of the day.
Villegas outpaced Sung Kang and Cameron Tringale by two shots and sits three ahead of Jordan Spieth and Hideki Matsuyama.
Spieth shot 67, the lowest round of his 19 trips around TPC San Antonio, despite not having his best stuff.

Tony Finau got off to a rough start and signed for a 1-over 73 to share 56th after 18 holes.
