Monahan on Tiger: 'It hurts' when someone you care about is hurt

PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan said Wednesday morning that Tiger Woods' serious injuries are impacting him and all of the players on Tour.

"I love him, we love him," Monahan said. "Any time someone that you care deeply about is hurt, it hurts. It's not me, it's everybody out here. Part of my emotion is knowing how much he means to everybody - all the players out here."

Many players, including Justin Thomas, Tony Finau, and Bryson DeChambeau, shared their concerns about Woods' single-vehicle accident, which resulted in severe leg injuries that required intensive surgery.

Thomas, Tiger's close friend, said the news made him "sick to my stomach."

The concerned commissioner made a trip to The Concession Golf Club - the venue for this week's WGC event - to speak with players as they prepare for the upcoming tournament.

"I want to talk to them," Monahan continued. "This is a tough moment, and it's not an easy week to play golf when the person that you idolize, the person that's your inspiration, the person who has gotten you into this game, the person that has created a lot of opportunity for you, is hurt."

Tiger's team sent out a statement Wednesday morning saying the 45-year-old was "awake, responsive, and recovering" after undergoing surgery to repair a number of lower right leg and ankle fractures.
