Finau 'disappointed' after 3rd consecutive runner-up finish

Tony Finau saw another title slip through his fingers Sunday, suffering a tough playoff loss to Max Homa at the Genesis Invitational.

"Right now, I'm disappointed," Finau said after the playoff, according to TeeScripts. "I didn't execute the shot I was trying to hit here on the next hole, and it bit me in the butt."

It was Finau's third straight runner-up result worldwide. The 31-year-old finished tied for second at both the Farmers Insurance Open and the Saudi International on the European Tour.

But Finau, in typical Finau fashion, remained positive about shooting 64 at a difficult Riviera Country Club to give himself a chance to win.

"But man, I shot 64 today on a day where I needed to just to get into the playoff," he said. "I think as I look back on the week in the next couple days, there's going to be a lot to grow from. Today's round was pretty special. I was able to make some key putts in regulation just to keep myself in it. Yeah, you know, I fell short, but I take a lot of positives."

Finau has now had a Tour-leading 37 top-10 finishes without a victory since 2017, according to Justin Ray of 15th Club. He also ranks first over that stretch with 21 top-five winless results.
